JPI offers a series of digital processing classes. Learn from our digital artist the steps you need to take from a digital file to a print. Really, it’s not rocket science.

Adobe Classes

Private Photo Editing Tutorial

A private appointment for software instruction can be arranged for Adobe’s Creative Cloud programs: Photoshop, Lightroom & Bridge. Additional software instruction for MAC OS Photos and Photoshop Elements. Although this is normally for 1-hour, additional time can be arranged at the hourly rate. Our expert graphic artist and photo educators can guide you through many topics like - image compositing, color corrections, working in layers, digital asset management, advanced operations, selection tools, basic editing settings and much more.

There is only one ticket per person for each available time slot. The appointments are on a first come first served basis. Things to do before your appointment - Please be sure your lap top is charged. These appointments are usually very technical about a specific program. Please bring something to jot down notes. It is recommended that your write down 3 to 5 questions about what you would like discuss or learn prior to your appointment. Most software uses the computer operating system as the basis for the applications uses. Having a base knowledge of shortcut keys and the computer’s filing system help you better understand the software’s features and functions.  Please be sure the correct software is installed before your appointment.

Basic Editing Concepts

A fundamental class for developing a digital workflow.

If you feel you've been struggling with what do with your photos, then this is the class for you.

This 90-minute presentation is about the required skillsets for all image editing. Includes topics on file types and nomenclature, RAW vs JPEG, transferring files from camera to computer, file organization, proper file back-ups, introduction to post-processing, common post-processing software programs, and why and when to shoot a RAW image vs a JPEG image.

The class is a pre-requisite for any image editing class. If you feel weak in any of these areas mentioned above you should considered this class first before the others: A lap top isn’t required for this presentation. Although handouts will be provided, please bring something to jot down notes.

Base level knowledge of your computer's filing system, storage locations, and operational shortcuts will go a long way towards enhancing your experience in this course and with your computer system. If you prefer, you can sign up here for a One on One lesson for editing purposes.

Editing Demonstration

The Photo Editing Demo is about working with the files submitted by students of the class. JPI’s professional graphic artists will edit their files and make ready for printing. In the class a graphic artist will demonstrate with selected files from the class about their editing choices. Students will receive a $25 gift card to print their image and an editing synopsis from the graphic artist.Select up to three images to be edited by one of our graphic artist. Share the files via email or Dropbox to education@jpiphoto.com. The files can be RAW, .jpg or TIFF. They will select one image and create a new edited .jpg file. Student files must be submitted by May 13th. Files submitted after the 13th will not be included in the class. The final edited file and a PDF of the synopsis will be saved on a thumb drive handed out after the class, along with the $25 gift card.

This Editing Demo is about working with images of The Milky Way only.

Images are submitted by students of the class.JPI’s professional graphic artists will edit the files and make them ready for printing. In the class selected files will be demonstrated about the editing completed. Students will receive the edited file and a synopsis from the graphic artist. Included also is a $25 gift card to make a print.

Select up to three images to be edited by one of our graphic artist. Share the files via email or Dropbox to photolab@jpiphoto.com. The subject line should read For the Milky Way Editing Demo. The files can be RAW, .jpg or TIFF. They will select one image and create a new edited .jpg file. Student files must be submitted by May 18th. Photoshop Elements - Create Share & Repeat*

Editing for Beginners with Photoshop Elements 15

A great class for the novice in editing your images with Adobe's Photoshop Elements 15.  Simple steps that will help improve your image quality with a few clicks.  With fun short tutorials, you'll be amazed at what can be achieved with this powerful editor. Limited to 6 students and runs about 2.5 hours approximately.

*To get the most from this class you should have a good understanding of the fundamentals. See Photo Editing - Basic Concepts.

Equipment - Your laptop fully charged with your current version of Photoshop Elements. You do not need own Elements 15 to take this class. Special Note: You should have at least Photoshop Elements 13 for this class.  For versions, older than 13 contact our education department for a private lesson.
