Yearbook Portrait Session $15
Students must schedule this session or they will NOT be included in the yearbook. For this standard headshot portrait, girls wear a black drape and boys wear a dress shirt and tuxedo jacket—we provide all of these clothing items at the studio. Girls need to have their hair and make-up done before arriving at the studio and they should bring the earrings and necklace they want showing in the portrait (we will also have pearls available to borrow at JPI). We recommend that boys arrive in a white t-shirt to go under the dress shirt and that girls arrive in a strapless or tank top.
***Students will be choosing the pose that appears in the yearbook at the time of their session, so we strongly suggest that parents accompany their students!
***All Session fees (except for yearbook portraits) must be paid at the time sessions are scheduled.
On the Day of Your Portrait Session…
Keep Your Appointment…If your session needs to be rescheduled for any reason, please call JPI at least 48 hours before your appointment.
Arrive 15 Minutes Early… Late arrivals will lose valuable session time. If you are too late, your session will be rescheduled.
Be Prepared… Have your hair and make-up done before you arrive, but don’t forget to bring a hairbrush, comb, curling iron, styling products, and make-up for last minute touch-ups. Also, bring at least 2 additional outfits more than what you plan to use in your session.
Bring a Parent If Possible… They can help you stay organized in the dressing room and keep you looking your best. Also, parents might have a particular pose they’d like you to do and can inform the photographer accordingly.
If Friends or Family Are Joining You For a Portrait… They should arrive at the beginning of your session if you’re doing the portrait inside the studio. They should arrive near the middle of your session if you’re doing the portrait in the backyard.
Beach Shoots
On the evening of your shoot, the photographer will meet you by the playground area at Manatee Public Beach. On rainy days we will be monitoring weather satellites throughout the day. If it’s necessary to cancel the session, we will try to give you as much notice as possible. If you don’t hear from us, still head to the beach—it might be rainy where you are, but bright and sunny at the beach!
If you’d like to change outfits or pose in your bathing suit, please layer your clothing—there won’t be time to go to the bathroom to change. Bring a towel, hairbrush, hairspray, mirror, sunglasses, Frisbee, football, volleyball, skim board…any of your favorite beach items. Some of your poses may be in or near the water—please let the photographer know if you don’t want to get wet.
City Shoots
On the day of your shoot in downtown Bradenton, we recommend you park on Barcarrota Boulevard, which runs between the Bradenton Municipal Auditorium and the marina. The photographer will meet you there. Please wear only 1 outfit, as changing rooms will not be available. On rainy days we will be monitoring weather satellites throughout the day. If it’s necessary to cancel the session, we will try to give you as much notice as possible. If you don’t hear from us, still head downtown—it might be rainy where you are, but bright and sunny downtown!
We have 2 types of city shoots to choose from—you’ll need to pick the “theme” that best suites you:
CityScape—you’ll be photographed near downtown buildings and structures (Ex. The courthouse steps)
Riverfront—you’ll be photographed near the waterfront and on the grounds of the Bradenton Auditorium (Ex. The boats and waterway will be the background of your portrait)
On-Location Shoots
Arrangements for on-location shoots will be discussed with the photographer directly.
What Should You Bring?
Clothes, Clothes, and More Clothes
When choosing your wardrobe, solid colors are best. Darker clothing tends to minimize body size and strapless shirts may cause your arms to appear larger. Vary your sleeve lengths and bring at least one shirt with long sleeves. Please also bring a black shirt or dress of some kind. Be sure to match socks and shoe colors to your outfits because your feet will show in some of your poses. Here are a few suggestions for the types of clothes you should bring:
Identity Clothes
Athletic jerseys, dance uniforms, club t-shirts, school jackets, etc.
Something Different
Show off your unique personality with something flirty, funky, or wild.
Something Casual
Your favorite thing to wear on a normal day.
Something Classic
A timeless look that won’t make you cringe in 20 years.
Something Formal
Break out your formal gowns and suits for another moment in the spotlight. Guys…you can borrow our tux jackets, just bring black pants, black socks, and black shoes to match.
Props and Personal Items
Items that just say “YOU” add personality to your portraits and make them more special. What are your hobbies? What are your passions? What has kept you busy the last 4 years in school? Consider these ideas…
Music: Bring anything from a flute to a guitar, or a keyboard to a full drum set.
Sports: Bring a football, golf club, fishing pole, or surf board.
Hobbies: Bring your artwork, shopping bags, favorite books, or motorcycle gear.
Clubs: Bring your club t-shirt, chess board, Anime stuff, or camera.
School: Bring your awards, trophies, plaques, and sashes.
Don’t forget to bring a couple of your favorite CDs to listen to during your session!
***Guns (except paintball guns), firearms, and weapons are NOT permitted!
Vehicles
Some of our longer personality sessions allow you to bring your car, truck, or motorcycle. Keep in mind that your vehicle doesn’t have to be spotless to look good— small dirt spots won’t show in the finished portrait. However, do clean the tires and make the black look dark, as this will be visible. Classic cars or motorcycles make incredible props if you have one or can borrow one.
Pets
Some of our longer personality sessions also allow you to bring your pet. Please keep these guidelines in mind:
Pets must be on a leash at all times!
Cats can be temperamental and are best photographed in the studio. Please use a carrier to transport your cat.
Dogs can be photographed indoors or out. We suggest giving your dog a bath the day before your session. Dogs can be temperamental, so please inform your photographer if your dog is approachable. Having treats with you will help to keep your dog’s attention.
Exotic animals are totally your responsibility. Make certain they are caged at all times, except when restrained for the photograph, and please inform us of their temperament.
Special Tips and Guidelines
Hair
Avoid drastically changing your hairstyle before your portrait session.
Don’t cut or change your hairstyle after your session until you have had the opportunity to view your digital proofs.
It is your responsibility to look in the mirror while still in the dressing room. Check your hair, make-up, and clothing closely.
Jewelry
Yearbook poses must follow the school dress code. The only approved piercing is earrings. No nose or eyebrow rings are permitted for yearbook portraits only.
Ladies are encouraged to wear necklaces. Gold, silver, and pearls look great but be careful, too much bling tends to distract from the face.
Keep jewelry in a bag on a hanger with matching outfits.
Glasses
Sometimes glare on glasses cannot be avoided.
Glasses can also cause eye distortion in your portraits.
You may want to have the lenses removed by your optician or you can simply take some portraits without your glasses. Remember to remove your glasses a while before your shoot to avoid indentations on your nose.
Sunburn and Strap Marks
Do not try for a perfect tan the day before your portrait. The redness from sunburn will photograph and cannot be retouched. Allow burns to tone down for one week.
Peeling is a problem that is difficult to correct and will result in digital enhancements that cost extra.
Try to vary your swimsuits to avoid strap marks. Tan marks can be corrected digitally, but will result in additional charges. If you want a warm tone to your skin, just let us know and we will adjust the lighting accordingly.
Complexion (oily skin, blemishes & acne)
If you can look in the mirror and see a blemish from the distance of 24 inches, there is a good chance it will be seen in your finished portraits. But don’t cancel your appointment because of a blemish or two—we will do some minor blemish retouching on your portraits. Concealer and powder together work miracles to cover blemishes. This works for men too, just ask your mom for help (the make-up won’t be visible in your portraits). If you have an oily complexion, powder is a must. A non-glare matte finish is best.
There are two options to improve your portraits if you have acne. First, consider making arrangements to have professional make-up applied. This will reduce the need to have each portrait digitally enhanced for additional fees. The second option is to purchase digitally enhanced portraits for additional fees.
Scars and Tattoos
If you have a scar that you’d like lessened in your portraits, please let your photographer know so he can accommodate your desire in the posing. Scar removal can also be done digitally and will require an additional charge. Please consider if you want your tattoos visible in your portraits as well.
Freckles
High contrast black and white portraits often make your freckles appear more prominent or make them disappear depending on their darkness. Freckles are difficult to remove with retouching in color portraits, so if you would like to minimize their appearance it’s best to apply make-up.
Moles and Beauty Marks
These personal attributes are what make you who you are. Our digital artist may remove them inadvertently. If you want a beauty mark to remain, or even to be accentuated, please mention this to the sales associate at the time you view your proofs.
Braces
Most everyone likes to have a few poses taken that show their teeth. If you have braces, it’s a good idea to practice smiling naturally while looking in a mirror. Sometimes we find that people are self-conscious of their braces and they try not to show their teeth when they smile. This can make for an awkward portrait. You might ask your orthodontist to remove them for a few days or our digital artist can remove the braces for your finished portraits. An additional charge is applied for this digital service.
Professional Hair and Make-Up
We offer a dressing room that can be reserved 1.5 hours prior to your portrait session for professional hair styling and make-up application. You’ll need to discuss price and make arrangements with one of our approved licensed cosmetologists directly, but also don’t forget to reserve the dressing room with a JPI staff member. We recommend professional make-up to reduce the appearance of blemishes for your portraits; this will save on the expense of digital correction to your prints. Please allow 24 hours for a return phone call from the cosmetologists.
What Happens After Your Personality Portrait Session?
Portrait Preview Appointments***
The second step in this process is your Portrait Preview Appointment. You will schedule this appointment immediately following your studio session. At your preview appointment, you’ll view a slideshow presentation of your portraits on our large plasma television and receive a full introduction to our product line.
For our longer personality sessions, a portfolio book will be available for you to take home—allowing you more time to preview and select your favorite portraits. A non-refundable pre-payment of $350.00 towards your portrait order is required to take this portfolio home. The portfolio book remains property of JPI and must be returned within 4 weeks of delivery. Once returned, the pre-payment you made will be applied to your portrait order. Portfolio books are also available for purchase.
***Please Note: Preview Appointments will not be scheduled until all portions of your session are complete. For example, if you have a beach session in addition to studio time, we will make your preview appointment after both the beach and studio shoots are complete (we will not schedule two separate previews).
Sales Appointments
The third step in this process is your Sales Appointment. We strongly recommend that you make your Sales Appointment within 2 weeks following your Preview Appointment—the sooner you place your order, the sooner we can begin processing your portraits, which will take 6 to 8 weeks to complete. We also need 50% of your order paid before processing can begin. We offer an interest-free flex pay plan as well. Ask your sales associate for details.
We suggest making a list of the portrait sizes you will need for family and friends, which will make creating your perfect package easier. And don’t forget about upcoming anniversaries, birthdays, and holidays! Make sure you have placed your portrait order by November 1st to ensure delivery in time for the winter holiday season.
Digital Enhancements:
During your sales appointment, you’ll hear the terms Classic Retouching and Enhanced Retouching. Let’s clarify what each means:
Classic Retouching — retouching of minor blemishes and softening of facial and expression lines. Included in all portrait purchases.
Enhanced Retouching—our graphic experts spend extra time smoothing skin tones for a porcelain effect. Special attention is also given to expression lines around the eyes and minor stray hairs are removed. Enhanced retouching is highly recommended to digitally correct blemishes. This service can be selected for collection and DYO prints at a cost of $50.00 per pose, but is included in our wall portrait packages.
Enhanced Retouching Includes:
Blemish Removal
Braces Removal
Missing Teeth
Teeth Whitening
Removing Freckles
Extensive Hair Clumps
Stray Hair Removal
Glass Glare *not including the eye
Tan or Strap Marks
Delivery
The fourth and final step in this process is delivery of your portraits. Once we complete your portraits, you’ll receive a postcard in the mail indicating the student name the order is filed under and your balance due, if any. Then, at your convenience, you can come and pick up your quality Johnson PhotoImaging portraits to share with family and friends!
We look forward to working with you and your family during the excitement of your Senior Portraits. Thank you for choosing Johnson PhotoImaging for all of your photographic needs.
